Pool Automation 101: Pentair, Jandy & Hayward Compared

IntelliCenter, iAquaLink, OmniLogic — the three big automation ecosystems all do the same basic job differently. Here's a plain-language comparison.

Pool automation lets you control pumps, heaters, lighting and chemical systems from an app or a wall panel instead of walking to the equipment pad. The three brands we see most often in Southwest Florida homes all do this a little differently.

Pentair IntelliCenter

Pentair's IntelliCenter is built to be an all-in-one hub — it can manage pumps, heaters, lighting, and Pentair's own IntelliChlor salt system from one panel and app. It tends to show up most in newer builds and full system installations, since it integrates cleanly when the whole equipment set is Pentair.

Jandy iAquaLink

Jandy's iAquaLink is known for a straightforward app interface and solid reliability with Jandy's AquaPure salt systems and variable-speed pumps. It's a common retrofit choice because it plays reasonably well even in mixed-brand equipment setups, not just all-Jandy pads.

Hayward OmniLogic

Hayward's OmniLogic leans toward more advanced scheduling and multi-body-of-water control — useful for properties with both a pool and a spa running on separate schedules. It pairs closely with Hayward's own TurboCell salt systems and ColorLogic lighting.

What actually goes wrong with automation

Across all three brands, the most common issues we see are: a control board that's lost communication with a component (often a wiring or relay issue, not the board itself), a salt cell reporting incorrectly to the panel, and app connectivity problems that trace back to home WiFi rather than the pool system. Diagnosing which one it is — board, relay, sensor, or network — is most of the job.

Mixed-brand systems are more common than you'd think

Plenty of homes end up with, say, a Pentair pump and a Jandy heater from different points in the pool's history. Automation systems can usually still control mixed equipment, but it changes what to check first when something stops responding.
